Job Title: Materials Scientist / Engineer

Key Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will be a skilled Materials Scientist / Engineer who strives in a dynamic start-up environment. The key responsibilities of this position include developing and optimizing processes for CVD deposition and post-growth processing of single crystal materials, with a focus on diamond, as well as evaluating future development projects and optimizing proprietary CVD reactors.
Specific Job Duties:
- Plan and carry out complex research projects, such as the development of updated procedures for epitaxial crystal growth
- Conduct tests on materials and other substances to ensure that safety and quality standards are met
- Write technical reports that detail methods and findings
- Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in CVD/ALD
- Responsible for entire projects or processes and contributes to the completion of work group objectives through building relationships and consensus to reach agreements on assignments
- Evaluates and improves current processes, systems or projects to enhance overall chamber output
- Correlate material properties with product performance and predict various failure modes
- Other and all duties, projects, and tasks as assigned by the employee’s manager
This role is also a key stakeholder, SME and sometimes participant in various Operation Projects, and therefore balancing daily activities with project work will be essential for optimal results.
Qualifications:
Education and Skills
- Undergraduate degree in Materials Science, Physics, or Chemical Engineering required
- Master’s degree or 3 to 5 years of work experience preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Well-organized and ability to multitask
- Demonstrable coordination skills / Ability to navigate working groups and coordinate and collaborate
- Ability to tie objectives to actions
- Ability to build plans and execute with some autonomy
- Results-driven
- Proficient skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with others and work in a team environment
- Experience in Thin Film Process
- Familiarity with Chemical Vapor Disposition and Plasma
- Knowledge of materials and interactions with body and environment
- Knowledge with an emphasis on materials testing, processing, manufacturing and analysis
Safety and Risk Management
- Understands and follows safety and security procedures
- Practices preventative safety procedures as set forth by WD Advanced Materials
- Reports all accidents and incidents immediately to Management
- Uses only equipment trained to use and operates all equipment in a safe manner
- Reports all potential high-risk areas and safety concerns to the Safety Manager

Location: This is a full-time, on-site role. Candidate must be able to commute daily to Beltsville, MD location.
